This Pinot Noir comes from the fantastic Hanck Vineyard in the Twenty Mile Bench region of Niagara. This excellent site located north-east of the winery was planted in 2007 with clones 777 and 114. Hanck sits about 5 kilometers from Lake Ontario at an elevation of around 100 metres. Mainly clay loam till soils make up this area, producing wines with more body. We have chosen to bottle this wine separately to showcase the unique characteristics of this vineyard.
"94 points. Earthy and savoury in nature, this single-vineyard Pinot from Cloudsley opens with hints of purple iris, ripe raspberries and fresh rosemary. The palate is layered with wild blueberries and red currants, framed by fine tannins that offer structure and poise based in minerality. There's a lovely energy to this wine - concentrated yet lifted, with remarkable clarity. A persistent finish underscores its elegance and finesse, capturing the distinct character of the Hanck Vineyard in the 2021 vintage." - Magdalena Kaiser, Decanter Magazine
"93 points. Hanck Vineyard is located just north-east of the Cloudsley winery off Victoria Ave. and was planted in 2007 to Clones 777 and 114. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak, 33% new oak. Lowy has referred to this expression Pinot as an “iron first in a velvet glove. There’s just something very special about this vineyard.” It has a lovely floral note on the nose followed by fresh red berries, anise, savoury accents, and perfumed spice notes. It’s clean and pure on the palate with silky tannins, black raspberries, summer cherries, red currants, iron/bloody minerality and a long, echoing finish propelled by racy acidity. A complex Pinot that can cellar through 2031." - Rick VanSickle, Wines in Niagara
"92 points. Light and breezy pinot noir, gently extracted, red citrus and naturally sweet. Oak undetectable but come on it's got be there because the delicate spice and fine chalkiness are simply irresistible. Could drink this every day beginning now and for seven years forward. Drink 2025-2032. Tasted blind at NWACs, June 2025." - Michael Godel, Wine Align
