This wine is 100% Chardonnay sourced from the Wismer family's Foxcroft Vineyard in the Twenty Mile Bench region of Niagara. Foxcroft Vineyard was planted in 1996 with clone 96, and sits 5.5 kilometers from Lake Ontario, at an altitude of 110 meters. Located across the road from the winery, this incredible vineyard has everything one would ask for to produce the very best Chardonnay. The limestone-based, silty soils couples with an ideal setting on the escarpment to yield wines with that perfect balance of powerful fruit, stony minerality, and a long, elegant finish. We have chosen to bottle this wine separately to showcase the unique characteristics of this vineyard.
"94 points. This shows such fine restraint, poise and precision. The nose is rather reserved but cohesive with pear, subtle cinnamon/nutmeg, fine wood and minerality. It is medium weight, linear but not lean, radiating energy on the palate. Excellent, focus intensity and length, with a lick of minerality on the finish." - David Lawrason, Wine Align
"94 points. For 2023, winemaker Matt Smith and proprietor Adam Lowy take their Foxcroft Chardonnay to another level. The integration of sharply dressed orchard fruit in barrel clothing is a suave and handsome design, look, and feel. This stands upright, expresses varietal linearity, and is just about as fit and taut a Foxcroft as there has ever been. Essential Wismer Twenty Mile Bench Chardonnay, focused and got so right. Raises the bar and ceiling for estate and vineyard. Drink 2026-2030." - Michael Godel, Wine Align
