Formed by passing glaciers, the soils of the Twenty Mile Bench tend to be made up of deep clay and till, with a large amount of limestone and shale. These soils tend to be moderately well drained, with the rolling topography and the varying slopes of the escarpment aiding this. The varying elevation and slope, along with the circulating lake breeze moderates temperatures, ensuring gradual warming in spring and cooling in fall.
This Chardonnay was made with fruit sourced from the Wismer family's Foxcroft and Wingfield vineyards. These vineyards, situated near our winery, are perfectly suited for producing elegant, classic Chardonnay that demonstrates what makes this part of Niagara so special.
"90 points. This shows quite complex, intense lemon, hazelnut, green pear, brulee, toast and hay aromas. It is medium weight, fullish and almost creamy in texture. Quite intense and sour-edged, with warming 13% abv. trailing some minerality on the finish. I like the intensity here if more modest very good length. Tasted July 2026" - David Lawrason, Wine Align
"89 points. Softer vintage for the Cloudsley “Villages” level chardonnay label without any specific vineyard association. A gathering of Twenty Mile Bench sites meant as the entry point, accomplished with ease and the most amenable character possible. Less tension than most vintages, creamier centre and a cloud of chardonnay texture. Drink 2026-2028. Tasted twice, first at i4C, July 2026." - Michael Godel, WineAlign
